World tendencies of development of cable power distribution medium-voltage systems within the last decades are orientated on introducing cables with heat-resistant extruded insulation (cross-linked polyethylene and ethylene-polypropylene rubber). Presently, in industrially developed countries of Europe and America practically 100% of the market of power cable belong to cable with cross-linked polyethylene insulation.

Medium-voltage cables with cross-linked polyethylene insulation possess a number of advantages in comparison with cables with impregnated-paper insulation:

• increased operational temperature, which allows to increase output carrying capacity;
• increased endurance in conditions of overcharging and short circuits;
• possibility of laying on routing with an unlimited margin of levels;
• they do not contain oil, bitumen, plumbum, which facilitates assemblage, exploitation and reduces ecologically unfavorable factors;
• are more service-strong and require less expenses connected with reconstruction and maintenance of cable lines;
• smaller weight and admissible radius of curvature;
• possibility of producing cables of greater factory length;
• single-core and three-core cables with polythene cover.
